Sannounce

Support

Answers to the most common problems, and how to reach me if they don’t help.

A free app, made in my spare time

Sannounce is free and made by one person. I read every email, but there’s no support team, so it can take a few days, sometimes longer, before you hear back. I can’t promise a fix for every problem either.

Common problems

My speakers don’t show up

Check that your iPhone or iPad is on the same Wi-Fi as your Sonos speakers and that Sannounce has Local Network access (Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network). Guest networks often keep devices apart, so use your main network. If the speakers still don’t appear, enter the IP address of one of them under Speaker address in Sannounce’s settings. The Sonos app shows it under Settings › General Settings › About Your System.

Does it work with Sonos S1?

Sannounce is tested with Sonos S2. It should work with S1 as well: speakers on S1 pause the music, play the announcement and then carry on, instead of turning the music down. S1 hasn’t been tested on real speakers yet, so if you try it, I’d like to hear how it went.

A speaker doesn’t play the announcement

The speakers fetch the recording straight from your phone, so they need to be able to reach it over the network. Keep Sannounce open until the announcement has played. If it still fails, check that your router doesn’t keep wireless devices apart, which is often called client or AP isolation.

Sannounce says no sound was recorded

While your iPhone is mirrored to a Mac with iPhone Mirroring, iOS turns off the microphone for apps. Record on the phone itself instead. Also check that Sannounce has microphone access (Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone).

The music doesn’t come back

Speakers that support it turn the music down and back up by themselves. Older speakers are paused and restarted afterwards, which can take a moment. If the music stays off, start it again in the Sonos app.

Is Sannounce made by Sonos?

No, it’s an independent app. For problems with the speakers themselves, contact Sonos support.

Get in touch

Email me and mention your iPhone or iPad model, its iOS version and which Sonos speakers you have. That makes it much easier to help.
